Breast augmentation

Breast augmentation is performed using breast implants to enhance the size and shape of your breasts profile. The most common reasons for breast augmentation include enhancing breast size when women feel that their breasts are too small or not in proportion with their overall body contour. This procedure can also improve breast shape for women who have sagging breasts or they have lost skin elasticity (a reason that frequently involves breast lift surgery, too). Breast augmentations can also correct minor asymmetries.

The operation is performed under general anesthesia. Surgery planning begins with an overall evaluation to ensure the health condition. It is important to be honest regarding the medical history. This includes information about any medical conditions, drug allergies, smoking habits and medications. Patients also have to undergo a mammogram or ultrasound examination and take blood tests and in some cases an EKG.

There are a lot of different breast augmentation techniques. An incision can be made either underneath the breast, just above the crease, around the areola or within the armpit. Unless the breasts are sagging, we prefer the inframammary incision, which is placed in the natural fold beneath the breast.

The doctor will decide which incision technique (placement location) is individually  the best,  based on patients goals, breast type and other factors. Breast implants can be placed above the muscle (subglandular) or below the muscle (subpectoral).

We will discuss the procedure in detail  during the consultation. The consultation includes an explanation of the surgical procedure, risks and possible complications associated with the surgery, and what to expect after surgery such as possible post-operative side effects and pain management. The consultation also include a presentation regarding breast implant options; brands, size, shape, placement and incision site, based on personal goals for surgery, and a thorough and realistic review of the patients expectations. Also, pre and post-operative photographs of breast augmentations performed by our surgeons will be shown.

The surgery is done as an inpatient in private hospital, in Estonia, where our patients have full board and rooms with all comforts (toilet, shower, TV, alarm clock, wi-fi). We offer our customers a complete package. We arrange the round-trip ticket between Helsinki and Tallinn, transport from the ferry port to the hospital and back. The price also includes 1 night at the hospital, complete care, anesthesia, surgery, medications and aftercare services performed by our co-operation partners, such as counseling and follow-up.

You will meet your plastic surgeon at the hospital and the surgeon will examine your breasts, mark the position of the implant pockets and explain which surgical technique is most appropriate for you. The operation takes place shortly after your discussion with the surgeon. It is very important not to eat or drink anything (not even water, gum or mints) for a minimum of 6 hours prior to surgery. The surgery takes one hour to complete. When surgery is completed, you will be taken into a recovery area where you will continue to be closely monitored. You will be provided with effective medication for postoperative discomfort and pain. Usually patients spend one (1) night under observation. On the first postoperative day the plastic surgeon will check the operated area. Everyone heals differently. Some discoloration and swelling will occur initially, but most residual swelling will resolve within a month.

The follow-up appointment is 6 month postoperative. After breast augmentation surgery, it is often possible to return to work within 2-10 days, depending on your job and the technique (if the implant have been placed below the muscle, you might have severe pain for several days). It is prohibited to exercise for 4 weeks after surgery. The procedure requires a supportive bra, which is provided from the hospital. You have to wear it for 4 weeks after surgery. Please follow the postoperative instructions which you will be given in written form.
